Recently I decided to be part of the “World Tapping Summit” which took place over 10 days via the internet.  The “tapping” is a technique known as Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT) and although I had heard about this before I was intrigued to find out the effect of such an intervention.

Each session was themed and I particularly chose to interact with growing your business, relationships and sport.   There was a 45 minute interview with an expert in their field and you were invited to tap along during the session.  Tapping involves focusing on the negative beliefs and emotions whilst tapping on certain meridan points.  It changes the way energy travels around our bodies and is very much like acupuncture but without the needles.

Focusing on negative thoughts felt alien to me as most of the time in coaching I encourage people to reframe their thoughts positively.  However I found by using EFT it brought down the intensity of negative emotions and lessened the impact of negative thoughts.  I specifically used it during a golf match.  During a match I know that I can start to put pressure on myself, anxiety builds up and my performance suffers.  By using EFT prior and during the match I had no anxiety, my mind and body remained relaxed and I played a superb game of golf.

I appreciate that this might be seen as a “one off” but I am intrigued enough to go on and learn tapping which I feel would be complementry within my coaching business.

If anyone else has used tapping with good results I would love to hear from you.
